Install a Dehumidifier

With the start of summer here in Tennessee comes the onset of hot and humid weather. Although keeping your home cool should be enough to prevent mold growth, if it happens to go out at some point, you’ll need to have a backup plan. Dehumidifiers are a great way to prevent mold growth in the most humid rooms of your home

Reverse Ceiling Fans

In order to keep your home cooler in the summer and keep the air circulating throughout the home, you’ll want to reverse the direction your ceiling fans are spinning so that they turn counter-clockwise. To do this, turn off the fan and wait for the blades to stop spinning. There should be a switch on the side of the fan indicating the direction it spins. Flip it and turn the fan back on. Now you can enjoy a less stuffy home this summer and maybe a little bit lower energy bills.

Clean Your Baseboards

The baseboards in your home probably don’t get the cleaning treatment they deserve in your home. Many homeowners spend a lot of time vacuuming and cleaning upholstery but don’t take the time to clean their baseboards. Baseboards are usually painted white, but over time they can start to fade in color as they gather dirt and grime. This usually becomes noticeable in the summer because people tend to track in more mud and water in the winter and spring. Use a damp cloth to wipe down these areas. Just make sure the baseboards don’t get too wet cause that could cause the paint to come off.

Repair and Clean Your Rugs

One of the most important things you can do early this summer is cleaning and repairing your rugs. Since rugs come in all different shapes and sizes, it’s important that you make sure it is getting done correctly. If you own an antique rug, either one that you’ve inherited or that you purchased from a rug store, you probably want to ensure that it lasts as long as possible and doesn’t stain.

Why it’s important

Rug cleaning is important for several reasons. First off, rug cleaning and repair improves the health and hygiene of your home. Carpets and rugs attract airborne allergens and dirt that gets drug in from outside. This not only damages the rug and carpet, but it is dangerous to breathe in. If your home is humid,  rugs may develop mold and mildew that is equally unhealthy to breathe in.

Longevity is another reason to have your rugs cleaned and repaired annually. Without regular cleaning, dirt and other contaminants can eat away at your rug, and your rug can become worn down due to foot traffic. However, when you contact a professional rug cleaner, you’ll be able to preserve the design, color, and feel of your rug for many years to come.

Nobody likes being around a dirty rug. Dirty rugs stick out like a sore thumb in most homes and make the room feel uncomfortable to be in. Rug repair will help to restore that comfort that your rugs used to provide.
